The ceremony, which will be presided by the Rector of the University of Lodz, Professor Elżbieta Żądzińska, will be attended by guests from Poland and abroad, representatives of the government and local government administration, university authorities, academics, doctoral students and students.
The first part of the formal sitting of the Senate of the University of Lodz, which will begin with the national anthem, will include a speech by the Rector of the University of Lodz, Professor Elżbieta Żądzińska, and the matriculation of the representatives of students and doctoral students admitted to the university and doctoral schools. Next, students and doctoral students who are particularly involved in the life of the university will be awarded the Universitas Lodziensis Alumno Laude Dignissimo Medals.
In the second part, we will have the honour to confer the title of doctor honoris causa to Professor Joseph H. H. Weiler, a lawyer, specialist in the field of constitutional, international and EU law, professor at New York University, former member of the Committee of Jurists of the Institutional Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, co-author of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms
The ceremony will begin with a presentation of the laureate and reviewers' achievements and a laudation delivered by the honorary supervisor, Prof. Michał Kazimierz Ujazdowski. The Diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa will be presented to Prof. Weiler by the Rector of the University of Lodz, accompanied by the honorary supervisor and the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz, Prof. Monika Bogucka-Felczak. After the ceremony, Joseph H. H. Weiler will deliver the inaugural lecture entitled "Will the Judge of the Whole Earth Himself Not do Justice (Gen:18:25) - The Copernican Moment in the Evolution of Justice".

Following the lecture, at the end of the meeting of the Senate of the University of Lodz inaugurating the academic year 2022/2023, "Gaudeamus" will be heard.
