Korytarze społeczno-ekologiczne — gdzie nas zaprowadzą?

In the fourth video as part of the "Science Inspires" YouTube channel, scientists from the Social-Ecological Systems Analysis Lab, Department of Regional Economics and Environment at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz, present the results of their research on mapping informal green areas in the valley of Jasień and Karolewka rivers in Lodz. We encourage you to get familiar with important conclusions related to the role of informal green spaces in our everyday lives.

In the video entitled "Korytarze społeczno-ekologiczne — gdzie nas zaprowadzą?" [Socio-Ecological Corridors – Where Will They Take Us?], the University of Lodz scientists talk about the most important conclusions resulting from research on green spaces in Lodz. In the course of studying the vegetation in the river valleys of Lodz, they have distinguished 17 different categories of green spaces, going beyond the common division into parks, forests, squares and street greenery, which we intuitively accept as the green that surrounds us every day in the city. Thanks to the video we also learn what social and ecological corridors are and how marking them out could bring the inhabitants of Lodz closer to living in a better, healthier, greener and more sustainable city.

"Science Inspires" on YouTube is a new channel of the University of Lodz, by the use of which we want to provide fascinating and important information from the world of science. Researchers representing various disciplines talk about the latest research, present interesting discoveries or explain complex phenomena in a way that is understandable to a wide audience. In the "Science Inspires" series, we focus on knowledge that has a direct impact on our everyday lives.

Texts, photos, dissemination of the results of the research by scientists from the University of Lodz

Our activities include not only video productions, but also popular science texts showing research processes and their results, but also presenting the tedious, challenging and unsuccessful nature of scientific work. "Science Inspires" is also about the profiles of scientists from the University of Lodz, which focuses on the motivations for choosing the profession of a scientist and the impact of research work on the environment.

Our goal is to stimulate curiosity and interest in science, as well as to emphasize its importance for society and the development of civilisation.

You can find all the materials on the website dedicated to the project.

The production of videos as part of the "Science Inspires" project was co-financed from the budget of the City of Lodz as part of the "Academic Lodz" programme.
